Our approach to your child’s education
At our nurseries, the world is an exciting place where little learners thrive through exploration and new adventures.
We adhere to the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework, ensuring that every child benefits from a high-quality education and care system that nurtures their overall development and prepares them for school.
The EYFS framework focuses on seven key areas of learning and development essential to children’s growth. These are divided into three prime areas – personal, social, and emotional development; communication and language; and physical development -which establish a strong foundation for learning.
The four specific areas – literacy, mathematics, understanding the world, and expressive arts and design – build on this foundation, equipping children with valuable skills and knowledge for a well-rounded education.
Our talented team of practitioners carefully integrate these areas into creative, engaging activities tailored to children’s natural interests. They also seize spontaneous learning opportunities, creating an environment where children’s curiosity and love for learning can flourish.
Creating a safe and inspiring environment
We believe that a child’s sense of security and belonging is the foundation of effective learning. From their very first day at our Cromwell Road Day Nursery & Pre-school or our Portslade Day Nursery, we aim to make every child feel safe, happy, and secure.
Our nursery spaces offer a wide range of carefully planned activities that spark curiosity to support learning through play, both indoors and outdoors. Our practitioners encourage children to explore new things, develop their independence, and build positive relationships.
By regularly monitoring each child’s progress, our practitioners create personalised plans that meet each child’s developmental needs, allowing them to develop at their own pace, supporting them emotionally and academically.
This approach empowers children to grow with confidence, preparing them for the next steps in their learning journey.
Building partnerships with parents and carers
Every child who attends either Cromwell Road Day Nursery & Pre-school or Portslade Day Nursery is assigned a key person who becomes the main point of contact for them and their parents/carers. This ensures continuity in care and development. Your child’s key person will greet you and your child daily, will provide updates on your child’s day and will be available to discuss any questions.
We also share regular insights, photos, and observations through the eyparent app, creating a transparent and collaborative experience between the nursery and home environments.
We actively encourage parents/carers to participate in stay-and-play sessions, special events, and termly reviews with their child’s key person.
For children aged two, we complete a progress check to assess development, which is shared with health professionals to create a holistic picture of each child’s growth, ensuring they receive the best support possible.
